Overview
The requirement of this project was to design 2 to 3 functionalities for a mobile version of a productivity app.
Context
Define the direction that will work with existing branding and digital UI.
Objective
To design the UI for the mobile version of a productivity app and prepare for handover to developers.
Target Audience
The target audience is primarily 16 to 24 year olds who want to keep their study plans and to-do lists in one place and manage them on the go.
Key Functionalities
I designed the user interface focusing on the following 3 tasks:
-
Create a user profile
-
Create task lists
-
Mark tasks as complete
Process
I examined a couple of different task applications to explore how they implemented the three essential features mentioned earlier. Afterward, I analyzed color schemes and brands that resonate with the intended audience. Finally, I developed mockups to visualize how a task application could be streamlined with user-friendly icons and features.
Tools Used
Mockups
I created wireframes to investigate different layouts and their hierarchy. and then tightened it up by creating a mide-fidelity mockup.
Type and Visual Hierarchy
I aimed for a straight forward visual design for the app, incorporating colors that would strongly connect with the intended audience while maintaining a clean and minimalist appearance.
Mockups
By simply clicking on the button located at the bottom, users can swiftly add a task by providing a task name and description. Additionally, they have the option to prioritize and categorize their tasks. When a task is completed, users can click on it to mark it as done.
Takeaways
Have you met the objectives of the project brief?
The project aimed to develop a task application tailored to a specific demographic, with a focus on three key functionalities. I successfully achieved this objective by creating an app that is clean, simple, and intuitive in its design and functionality.
What challenges did you encounter?
Throughout the design process, I encountered difficulties when it came to designing the logo and selecting a suitable color palette. I found myself consistently drawn to a particular color scheme, but this time, I managed to overcome this challenge by dedicating time to research colors beyond my usual palette and seeking feedback from others.
What would you have done differently?
In retrospect, I acknowledge that conducting more testing at various stages of the process would have greatly contributed to making my decisions more solid and well-founded.
